Jason Buckler

Minister

I am the Minister at Carey; I have spent the last 17 years working as a Learning & Development consultant and have worked on many large projects from customer service,  business improvement to driving culture change and leadership development.

I have always been keen to get involved with different Christian projects, I was the lead coordinator for Preston & South Ribble Street Pastors for a number of years, this gave me a taste for Ministry. Having been a regular preacher, youth leader, home group leader and lots more in my local Church, I felt God call me into full time ministry.

I genuinely feel that God is doing something across the UK and the local church has a massive part to play in HIS plans. So, my favourite saying is ‘God is doing something, we must get ready!’

My ultimate joy comes from seeing someone being pulled to Jesus!

I am married to Lorraine and have 4 great kids, Luke, Sarah, Tim and Lily. I love to play golf and go out for nice family meals!

My favourite bible verse is Ephesians 3:20 ‘Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us’

Richard Spalding

I am a retired Civil Engineer: I managed large design offices for roads, sewers, railways and airports. I have worked in UK, Ireland, Sudan, Iran, and Turkey. I was born in 1947. My wife Fiona died 5 years ago. My sons are Alistair, living in Oslo with a wife and 3 children, and Andrew who lives in Leyland. My hobbies are woodwork, fishing, gardening and model railways.

My father was a vicar, but I came to a more personal faith aged 18 at university. I have been involved in ministries with the Navigators, and churches in Scotland and Preston, and have been a deacon at Carey for some 40 years. I am Carey Church Secretary, and Company Secretary for the Carey Childcare Centre.

My favourite verse is Hebrews 13:5 He has said 'I will never leave you or forsake you'.

Clare Lewis

I have been at Carey Baptist Church since I was a teenager apart from a few years away at university.   I have a passion to see the church flourish and preach the saving power of Jesus in Preston city centre.

I became a Christian at the age of 15 having made a personal decision to follow Jesus after being brought up in a Christian home. I am a secondary school teacher of History and Music so I co-ordinate most of the music for the church and its services. I am married to Gwyn, and we have two children and four grandchildren.

Ian Argile

I was brought up in a Christian family and we moved to Preston in 1966. I made a personal commitment and was baptised when I was 19. I married Anne at Carey in 1976 and we now have 4 grandchildren.

I was asked to help out with the church audio in 1982 and still involved now. I have also been on the diaconate as either church secretary or treasurer for over 40 years. I am a retired chartered engineer and information security consultant working with computer systems for over 50 years.

My favourite bible verse is: 1 Peter 5 vs 7 “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you"

Ian Walls

I work full time selling industrial software to UK manufacturing companies. I am married to Janice, and we have three grown up daughters and three grandchildren.

My hobbies involve making things, primarily with wood or plastic (3D printing). Other interests include reading and spending time with the grandchildren. I came to Jesus at a Boys Brigade event over 45 years ago.

My favourite verse is Proverbs 16:31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.

Terrence (Terry) Jones

Deacon

Known affectionately as Terry, I am a devoted family man, proudly married to my wonderful wife, Jennifer. Together, we have been blessed with four amazing sons—Jamieson, Jeremiah, Tejonn, and Tequan—who have grown into incredible young men and remain my greatest pride and joy.

Staying active and connected is central to who I am. You’ll often find me at the gym, playing football with my boys, enjoying a game of badminton, or out on my bike. Above all, I cherish time spent simply hanging out and making memories with family and friends.

My life has been shaped by my faith, I have walked as a Christian for 26 years, a choice I consider the very best decision I have ever made. A truth that guides me every day is found in Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”

Dr Kenny Omoniala

I work as a University Lecturer and Clinical Practitioner within the NHS I am married to Yvonne, and we have three teenage children I love audiobooks, movies, drums, books and academic research and outreach. I have been a Christian for as long as I can remember. I spoke the sinner’s prayer when I was still in primary school in Ghana and have not looked back since, have two favourite bible verses.

Romans 8:32 "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?"

Roman 12:11-12 “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;”

 My favourite saying is ‘His Last Command, Our First Concern’.

Jean Pickles

I am a Prestonian, who has been hanging around Carey for more decades than I dare to count. I was introduced to the church by a school friend when I was in the sixth form at the park School.

From school I trained as a teacher and subsequently as a lawyer. As a result, I spent the biggest part of my career teaching Law in a sixth form college.

In retirement I still like going on courses, being involved with the University of the Third Age and writing short stories. I also enjoy travelling and being a lady who lunches.

I forgot to get married!

Olive Grant-Bedward

I’m a Prestonian of Jamaican descent with a firm Christian upbringing. I attended Carey Baptist Church from a young age, drifted away and returned when my first daughter started attending the nursery. All three of my children and my granddaughter attended nursery here whilst I regularly and faithfully worshipped at the Church (over 20+ years).

I work in the Customer Service field and have done so for over 40 years. My work has taken me all over the North West and I’ve had many roles: Training, Administration, Human Resources, Stock taking, Shift Management, Catering, Accounting, Complaint Handling, Compliance…..but now I work from home overnight for Legal Aid.

I was baptised at Carey on Easter Sunday 2024 and I haven’t stopped smiling since no matter what struggles have come my way. Music has always been my comfort and joy - Psalm 23 is my mantra - because the Lord Is My Shepherd. Favorite hymns are The Servant King and He Will Hold Me Fast.
